HR is not your friend!

This post from a Marketing VP, Emily French, offered an interesting take on the idea of “HR is not your friend”. There were lots of perspectives in the comments with one big theme being that HR’s role and impact on employees is quite different from any other department.

Obviously HR must protect the company but in my opinion, great HR teams are also advocates for people and recognize that the best way to build a great company is with great talent, and great talent is on going to stay and grow with a company that takes good care of them.

Here’s a poll I ran on LinkedIn where people weighed in - click through to check out the comments!

Great insights in this post from Nick Bloom on a study comparing hybrid and on site work. Spoiler alert, there was no difference in productivity, but there WAS a major difference in employee retention and engagement…and no surprises, hybrid won (and benefited women most).

Childcare costs play a major role in women’s participation in the workforce and rising costs often mean we lose great people and productivity. Interesting data that in some states where the state is providing additional support, childcare costs are dropping. It’s also a reminder than if employers want to diversify their workforce, once of the best moves they can make to attract and retain more women is to provide support with childcare.
