Here’s what HR pros have to say about their service:

Wow this has been a rollercoaster

There probably isn’t anything more to say about the election that we haven’t already read/said/thought.

  • Are there additional resources or shifts to immigration policies employers can make to help those who may be worried about federal changes on this front?

  • Can employers offer financial resources to those whose healthcare access is limited?

  • Can employers use their position to advocate for certain policies at a state or federal level that can support their workforce?

  • How might the end of year donations many companies make reflect the values or priorities of the workforce?

  • Continually remind employees of resources such as EAPs, ways that benefits/budgets can be used, etc. that could be helpful as they navigate this period.

I also know that many employees will be much more fired up and ready to organize and take action. I think there’s an opportunity for employers to be clear if any of these activities propose a conflict or violate any rules the employer may have in place, any expectations for social media, etc.

I would love to hear from you: is your company evolving commitments to your workforce? Tell me more!

A bit sappy, but HR can play a really meaningful role in supporting employees right now.

Awesome Talent Practices in the Wild!

This section will share innovative ideas and practices from individuals and companies. I’ll share some that I spy, but you are always welcome to brag about your work!!

Appreciated this topic from Katie Rakusin on discriminating on the basis of political beliefs. It’s certainly hard to keep our personal feelings in check, but critical for an unbiased hiring process. What I DO think companies should do is make their values and beliefs clear. If you deeply value DEI, make sure you name that on your website so those who may not mesh with that culture can opt out. Personally, I avoid checking candidate’s social media as well for this reason.

Good read from Dominique Harris on supporting your employees through turbulent times (and there are a few other resources linked in comments!)
